01Biography
Bucky Barnes has been a war casualty, a brainwashed assassin, a fugitive, and a man in court-mandated therapy. Very few franchise characters have been allowed to be genuinely unwell for as long as this one has, and the films have mostly resisted curing him in a single scene.
By Doomsday he is operating in the open again. What the film has not clarified is under whose authority — his recent history sits with the Thunderbolts rather than the Avengers, and those are different chains of command.
He appears in the 2012 film only as archive material; his first substantive Avengers-team appearance is Doomsday.
