The Thing

Ben Grimm got the worst deal of the four and has the least self-pity about it, which is the whole tension of the character. The others can pass as human. He cannot, and the good versions of this story never let him forget it.

He functions in Doomsday as the Four's emotional floor — the one who says the obvious thing out loud while Reed is three abstractions deep.

On raw strength he is in the same conversation as Hulk and Thor, which an ensemble film has to be careful about or he becomes the solution to every problem.
